Purpose and Rationale: 

Purpose: 

  1. The qualification The formal recognition of the achievement of the required number and range of credits and other requirements at specific levels of the NQF determined by the relevant bodies registered Officially registered (recorded) in terms of the National Qualifications Frameworkby SAQAwill produce a practitioner who: 
    1. Facilitates an adult learning group effectively using a ready-made programme or materials package. 
    2. Facilitates a learning area or areas at ABET Adult Basic Education and Traininglevels 1 and 2. 
    3. Ideally works under the ongoing supervision of a more senior practitioner. 
  2. The practitioner will be qualified to teach in one or two of the elective learning areas at ABET Adult Basic Education and Traininglevels 1-2, using prescribed materials and methodology. These pre-packaged materials and teaching aids would include suggested lesson plans, learning activities, assessment The process of collecting evidence of learners' work to measure and make judgments about the achievement or non-achievement of specified National Qualifications Framework standards or qualificationsinstruments, and so on. 
  3. The qualification The formal recognition of the achievement of the required number and range of credits and other requirements at specific levels of the NQF determined by the relevant bodies registered Officially registered (recorded) in terms of the National Qualifications Frameworkby SAQAprovides an opportunity for existing practitioners to acquire a FETC Further Education and Training Certificatein order to study further. 

Rationale:

  • Many of these practitioners may have worked as ABET Adult Basic Education and Trainingfacilitators for some time, but do not have a FETC Further Education and Training Certificatecertificate with which to gain entry to a level 5 qualification.The formal recognition of the achievement of the required number and range of credits and other requirements at specific levels of the NQF determined by the relevant bodies registered Officially registered (recorded) in terms of the National Qualifications Frameworkby SAQA The level 4 qualification The formal recognition of the achievement of the required number and range of credits and other requirements at specific levels of the NQF determined by the relevant bodies registered Officially registered (recorded) in terms of the National Qualifications Frameworkby SAQAprovides these practitioners with a FETC Further Education and Training Certificateand facilitates entry to qualifications in the Higher Education and Training (HET) band. 
  • The level 4 unit standards may also enable NGOs and other non-formal providers, who train ABET Adult Basic Education and Trainingfacilitators, to structure training according to nationally recognised standards.

  1. Plan, facilitate and evaluate learning events effectively with a group of ABET Adult Basic Education and Traininglearners. 
  2. Communicate effectively in order to mediate knowledge and skills to learners. 
  3. Assess the progress of learners with validity using a prescribed instrument. 
  4. Fulfil the administrative demands of a learning group. 
  5. Assist in the reinforcement and development of literacy and language skills of learners across the curriculum. 
  6. Identify, refer and assist learners who have special needs.
